It's time to begin your safari. Welcome to Tanzania! After we greet you and provide you with the trip briefing, we'll take you out to help you discover why so many people think Tanzania is the best place in Africa to go on safari.

You'll spend some time in Arusha, where there's always something happening. The endlessly busy streets are a fascinating performance in their own right, but the city also has clamorous markets, excellent museums and a fun food scene. Best of all, it's a window on local life that you just can't get out in the safari parks.

Serengeti National Park

If you haven't fallen in love with Tanzania by the time you reach the Serengeti, then this is the place that will make it happen. This Unesco World Heritage–listed park is simply extraordinary, with its savannah grasslands that seem like they go on forever, and with more animals than you ever thought possible. Big lion prides stalk the riverbanks. Solitary leopards watch the world go by from the fork of a tree. Cheetahs streak across the plains in pursuit of a gazelle. You will probably also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes and spotted hyenas while you're here, not to mention so many other animals.

A guided game drive through Serengeti National Park is one of the best safari experiences you can have anywhere in Africa. Apart from the signature savannah grasslands and the park's amazing wildlife, your guide will show you all that's good about the Serengeti.

The Northern Serengeti has large numbers of wildlife, quiet safari trails, and equally wonderful scenery. It's best when the migration is around, but it's good at any time of the year.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater

Your day in and around Ngorongoro Crater could just be one of the most memorable of your whole safari. You’ll explore the crater rim and then drive down onto the crater floor, where the critically endangered black rhinos are the stars of an astonishing wildlife show. You’ll almost certainly see large-tusked elephants, at least one of the Ngorongoro’s four lion prides, and wandering clans of spotted hyenas. It also just happens to be one of Africa’s most beautiful corners, a hidden world where you’ll be surrounded by steep, deep-green crater walls, a salt lake, forests and hippo-filled waterways.

You're in for one of the best safari experiences you can have on your guided game drive through Ngorongoro Crater. As you explore the crater floor, your guide will help you look for lions, black rhinos, spotted hyenas and so much more.

Day 6

Tarangire National Park

We think you’ll be impressed with Tarangire National Park. Most visitors love the distinct shapes of the baobab trees silhouetted against the sky that make this place feel like a fairy-tale African landscape. Or visitors remember the elephants that roam in family bands everywhere throughout the park. If you’re lucky, you’ll also encounter the big cats – lions especially, but also cheetahs and leopards – that are always a possibility here. And there’s a fair degree of certainty that you will tick wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, buffalo and zebra off your wildlife-viewing list.

This is when your tour with us draws to a close. As we go our separate ways, we've no doubt that you leave us with new friends and with so many wonderful experiences that will live long in your memory. We also feel sure that you'll return to travel with us once again in the not-too-distant future.
